The ankle is continuously stressed when we stand, walk or run while simultaneously having to adjust to varying terrains.
Ankle Sprains are the common “twisted ankle” but they can range from mild to severe. The amount of swelling and pain are often proportional to the severity of the soft tissue injury to the ligaments. Ignoring treatment of a severe sprain can lead to a chronically painful and unstable ankle because the ligaments didn’t heal properly. Proper orthopaedic treatment of ankle sprains includes a combination of medications, bracing, activity modification and therapy. In rare cases, surgery may be required.
